DUN Tenang: BN menang majoriti besar 3,707 undi

LABIS: Barisan Nasional (BN) mempertahankan kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Tenang selepas calonnya, Mohd Azahar Ibrahim menang dengan majoriti undi 3,707, mengatasi calon PAS, Normala Sudirman.

Keputusan pilihan raya kecil itu diumumkan tepat jam 10.03 malam oleh Pegawai Pengurus Pilihan Raya, Md Asri Amir di Pusat Penjumlahan Undi di Dewan Serbaguna Majlis Daerah Labis di sini.

Mohd Azahar memperoleh 6,699 undi manakala Normala 2,992 undi.

Dalam pilihan raya kecil itu, Mohd Azahar, 39, yang juga bekas Penolong Pentadbir Tanah Daerah Kecil Rengit, Batu Pahat, dicabar oleh Normala, 38, yang juga seorang bekas guru.

Sebanyak 71.8 peratus atau 10,579 pengundi daripada 14,753 pemilih berdaftar bagi pilihan raya kecil DUN Tenang keluar mengundi sehingga proses pengundian ditutup 5 petang tadi.

Timbalan Pengerusi Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR), Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar berkata, jumlah peratusan itu lebih rendah berbanding pilihan raya umum 2008 iaitu 73.52 peratus.

11.10am: Several roads leading to Bandar Labis Tengah area are partially flooded.

10.45am: EC says 24.34% or 3,591 cast their votes by 10am.

10.40am: Heavy rain still not letting up and police say that certain stretches along the Labis Segamat road near Taman Tenang Jaya are flooded.

10.15am: Barisan and PAS supporters line roads towards polling center in Felda Tenang and urge motorists to vote for their respective candidates shouting 'Hidup Barisan' while others shout 'Sokong PAS, Sokong Normala'.

10.10am: Voters continue to stream in at polling centers wearing raincoats and carrying umbrellas. Many are also seen holding umbrellas with Barisan and PAS logos.

10.00am: Rain continues to pour and narrow roads leading to the polling station in Felda Tenang is congested. Flood waters are also steadily rising at several roads leading to the polling station in Pekan Air Panas.

Returning officer Md Asri Amir says all polling centres remain open.

09.43am: The Election Comission says 10.68% or 1,576 cast their votes by 9am.

09.10am: Heavy rain causes some roads in Pekan Air Panas to flood. Fire and Rescue Department officials are standing by with rescue boats fastened to their vehicles.
